The Great American Eclipse of 2017
The Great American Solar eclipse marked the alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun and appeared as a blocking of the light. It was in the blocking of the light that the alignment of the cosmic forces came to be and the hidden aspects of the sun seen.
For the first time since 1918 one of the biggest and most amazing astronomical events of the century took place when the moon passed in front of the sun, totally blocking its life-sustaining rays - and in doing so revealed the hidden mystery and striking outer ring of the corona. The beauty and splendor of this cosmic event brought many of us to a state of child-like awe and wonder and for others, like myself, left us pondering its deeper and more spiritual meaning of this most intriguing celestial event.
As I sat in my backyard, with ever-growing excitement, for the grand alignment to finally arrive after days of ceremony and preparation, I never anticipated nor expected the unforgettable phenomena that brought with it a message stamped with the Divine's insignia.
The day was different from the get go with a penetrating stillness replacing the usual bustling energy and sounds of a Monday morning workday. The daily staple of warm, bright rays of sunlight flooded the landscape and made the day appear normal despite the growing stillness.
At 10:23 a.m. PST there was a uncanny and distinct feeling of coolness wash over my body. I had my eyes closed in meditation and thought it strange that I didn't visually notice any change in the sun's brightness yet felt the dissipation of its warming rays. Upon opening my eyes I realized and surprised to see that the sun was in fact still out, in what appeared full spectrum, and remained so throughout the eclipse, but its warmth was gone. It was at that moment of the obscuring of the light that was the eclipse that brought forth its profound message.
Scientifically we know the Sun brings life to planet Earth and without it all dies. Similarly, the radiant energy of the Divine sustains and aligns us to our sacred self. Our Sun is the physical representation of the life-light of Source. With the blocking or eclipse of Source energy within our lives our spirits can wither and we can become the dead living OR we can CHOOSE to blossom as a result of the darkness and open to the light of our Sacred Spirit, best exampled by the hidden Corona of the sun that can only be witnessed with a total eclipse.
Through out the ages all humanity at one time or another has and will continue to experience what I refer to as a total life eclipse that initially will bring us to our knees and leave us a raw and broken heap of what we once were. It is in these shadow experiences in our lives that we we are made acutely aware of that which needs light in our life. These times of great strife and struggle are not forms of punishment but more a polishing of our souls to align us to that which will illuminate and elevate our lives.
During the eclipse my attention was brought to the very noticeable lack of warmth I was feeling despite the sun's brightness. When I asked for understanding, I was graced with two insights.
The first being that the absence of warmth that day served as a messenger to us to be mindful that while in our dark moments when we feel disconnected from Source, to not seek out "false light" to comfort or save us from our pain and suffering because in doing so it will ultimately lead to more shadowing of our Divine light - our sacred corona.
False light appearing real is never soul-nourishing and analogous to the brightness of the sun giving the appearance of offering warmth yet it was non-existent in reality. Light that misleads and gives the illusion of being our saving grace is only a temporary salve for what is ailing our souls and we must become aware of the temptation to jump toward the simulated light that often leads to the forfeiture of our soul's higher purpose and calling.
The second insight presented during the eclipse revealed that there are holy gifts to be had and unveiled when we come to a place of befriending and surrendering to our shadow moments - life moments void of life-sustaining light. More so, by embracing the darkness we invite it to become the guiding source of wisdom it is intended to be that will ultimately bring us into alignment with our Divinity. As many of us have ascertained from several laps around life's gym or are currently learning, it is in the darkest moments that hollow us out to our core that we most seek and rediscover not only our wholeness, but our freedom from the bondage that held us captive and prevented our soul's emancipation.
The eclipse was nature - Creator's way of beautifully demonstrating for us that the obscuring of light from our lives is sometimes needed to move us out of our limiting sphere of lifeless living and to bring forth the totality of the Great I Am presence that is each of us. We must find it in ourselves to reconcile with our shadow moments and not cave to the material world fixes dangled in front of us as well as lessen our white knuckle grip of control and let the resistance to the healing wisdom fall away like soft rain to the earth. The shadows that make there way into our hearts and lives are there to serve us and align our lives to the eternal and forever LIGHT that is Source.
